NOKOMIS, Fla. (WFLA) – Here in Florida, we’re lucky to be surrounded by an abundance of critters on land and in the water.

From manatees, to sharks, alligators, cranes, sea turtles, eagles, coyotes and dolphins; if you’re lucky, they’ll surprise you and make your day.

That’s what happened to Matt Lee, 25, when he was at work last weekend at Cool Breeze Boats and Jet Ski Rentals in Nokomis. Lee happened to have his cell phone handy and started recording when a young dolphin decided to put on an amazing show.

In the video, you see the dolphin jump out of the water and into the air to the delight of everyone nearby. “I thought it was pretty cool,” Lee told WFLA.com. “They kinda like the attention.”

What made his performance so special was the energetic dolphin jumped five times in a row. People on the docks and in nearby boats stopped what they were doing and grabbed their cell phones to record the dolphin.

The young dolphin ended his performance by swimming away with the rest of his family.

Lee says he sees dolphins every day at his job, which is about five minutes away from the Venice Inlet.

He says a lot of small fish are in the area, which attracts dolphins looking for something to eat.
If you want to increase your chances of seeing dolphins in the Tampa Bay area, Lee says to watch for incoming tides which bring fish to an area, followed by dolphins.

Cool Breeze Boats and Jet Ski Rentals is located at 100 Circuit Rd. in Nokomis.
