SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) – A Sarasota man has been diagnosed with a very contagious disease and says he can’t find a doctor to treat him.

In a phone interview, David Allard described his condition.

“Lesions all over my body,” he said.

“More recently I have something called ‘crusted Norwegian scabies.’”

Eleven months ago, Allard says his body became infected with tiny little mites burrowing into his skin.

In photos, red, infected areas all over his body are visible.

Allard says his skin disease is progressively getting worse.

“That can be very contagious because it’s a much higher amount of mites in the skin. But that’s rare and difficult to treat,” said USF’s Chair of Pediatrics.

Allard says he’s been to multiple doctors.

“It’s probably fourteen medical professionals who’ve  misdiagnosed or have been misleading because they didn’t want someone with such an infectious condition in their office,” he told News Channel 8.
He says he’s worried about infecting others.

“It’s statistically improbable that other people weren’t infected by me the few times that I do go out to shop or pick up prescriptions or something like that.”
