PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – St. Petersburg Police Chief Anthony Holloway announced Friday the arrests of nearly two dozen people involved in distributing large amounts of drugs in the community.

In February, the St. Petersburg Police Department Strategic Operations Division began an investigation into multiple shootings and other crimes in the city.

Holloway said during their undercover work, detectives learned a group from the Childs Park neighborhood was involved in extensive drug sales and was moving large quantities of marijuana and cocaine in St. Pete and throughout Pinellas County.

On Monday, the police department says detectives executed search warrants on four homes in the city. In the past few days, 21 people were arrested and detectives have confiscated 127 pounds of marijuana, eight pounds of powder cocaine, 286.1 grams of fentanyl, and seven guns.

According to police, one of the seven guns was stolen in a vehicle burglary, and all of them are being processed to determine if they were used in other crimes.

Investigators with St. Pete police estimate the suspects were distributing $80,000 to $120,000 of marijuana weekly, not including the cocaine and fentanyl.

“This is not just about getting some pot off the street. This is about having a significant impact on stopping the violence in our community,” Holloway said.

An investigation into this case is still ongoing by the St. Petersburg Police Department, Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, United States Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit.
