May 4 is the 40th anniversary of a tornado that ripped through High Point Elementary School in Clearwater, killing three students.
John DuVal Jr., Garey Staly and Prescott Wilmot were the victims of the deadly storm.
DuVal was killed on his birthday.
The F3 tornado ripped through Pinellas County on May 4, 1978 at 11:47 a.m.
A total of 94 people were inured by the storm and the school sustained $3.1 million in damages.
A plaque remembering the students was dedicated to the school’s principal at the time, Olney Arnold, two years ago.
The “High Point Originals” worked to put the memorial in place.
