PASCO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A man has been arrested for homicide after a shooting in Dade City that left one person dead overnight.

The shooting happened just after 1 a.m. Monday. Deputies have not said exactly where it happened.

An arrest report says a witness called 911 and reported that 39-year-old Chad Glavich shot someone at a home and left the scene.

About 20 minutes later, deputies say a second call came in from another person who reported that Glavich was at their home uninvited and appeared “panicky.”

Deputies took Glavich into custody and, according to an arrest report, found a yellow 20-gauge shotgun shell in his pocket. The arrest report says a K9 crew later conducted a search and found a black baseball cap, a pair of black canvas slippers and a Winchster model 37A single-shot 20-gauge shotgun. Deputies say the shotgun was found near some orange groves.

Deputies then spoke with a witness who was at the home where the shooting happened. According to the arrest report, the witness told deputies Glavich went in and out of his own room several times throughout the night checking on the victim and a baby.

The witness told deputies at one point, Glavich went to the shed outside and returned to his bedroom where the victim and baby were. According to the arrest report, the witness heard a shotgun blast and saw Glavich run from the bedroom with a shotgun. The witness told deputies the single-shot shotgun appeared “broken in half.”

When the witness ran into the bedroom, he told deputies he found the baby laying in blood on the bed next to the victim. According to the arrest report, the witness saw apparent blood on the baby’s head and side but noted the baby was not crying. The witness then picked the child up and realized the baby was OK.

The victim who was in the room with the baby was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies say.

When deputies spoke with Glavich, they say he admitted to shooting and killing the victim because he believed the victim was trying to “frame him.” Deputies say he could not elaborate why he believed that.

According to the arrest report, Glavich admitted he shot the victim in the chest with the intention to kill. He was arrested and charged with pre-meditated murder/homicide.

Deputies are not releasing the victim’s identity due to Marsy’s Law.
