A powerful image of a little girl surveying damage from Hurricane Michael is getting attention online for showcasing the heartbreak being felt in the Florida Panhandle.
Christon Anderson took the powerful image in the days following Hurricane Michael. It shows his young daughter walking through The Cove neighborhood in Panama City, not far from downtown. The Cove is one of the oldest neighborhoods in town.
In the picture, Anderson’s daughter is walking down a street surrounded by fallen trees. Branches and other debris can be seen scattered over the roadway she’s walking along.
Two homes are seen in the background of the picture but, other than the downed trees surrounding them, it’s not clear how damaged they are.
Anderson posted the picture on his Facebook page Saturday and it quickly started getting attention. Many people are praising him for how powerful the image is, saying it speaks a thousand words.
“Such beauty in the midst of so much tragedy,” one person wrote.
“This photo tells us so much in its profound capture of the heartbreak facing so many,” another said.
In the comments, Anderson tells his friends that he and his family are okay. He does say they lost some windows, their back patio and surrounding trees.
