ASHVILLE, Ohio (WCMH) – A high school student is using one of the most important days of her life to shine a light on school shootings.

Gina Warren, a Teays Valley High School senior attached a QR code to her graduation cap that directs users to a website to remember students killed in school shootings since Columbine high school shooting in 1999.

“Get people talking about it and realize that there is a problem if this keeps happening and more and more kids keep dying,” said Warren.

It’s upsetting for Warren to keep hearing about school shootings happen and the untimely deaths of kids her age and younger.

“It’s so heartbreaking because I know that these students have lives just like mine and go to the schools just like mine,” said Warren.

She’s making sure they are not forgotten in a special way.

“I put a QR code on my cap and when you scan it with your phone it takes you to a website that I made with a list of all the students because of school shootings,” said Warren.

Anyone with an iPhone can scan her cap and it will lead them to a website she made with a list of more than 50 school shooting victims.  She posted the QR code on social media and the messages from families left behind are pouring in.

“Them reaching out to me that is what makes this so special. I didn’t expect it, but I’m glad I can represent and honor their family well,” said Warren.

To Warren, that what makes it all worthwhile.  Her webpage went from just 300 scans to more than 30 thousand scans in just two days.
