Starting in 2019, Sam joined the WRBL News 3 in Columbus, Georgia, as the Lead Digital Producer, where he helped grow the station’s digital audience and worked on investigative stories about housing insecurity, police brutality, healthcare, and city government, and helped the station launch their first podcast series.

Sam first started writing and editing news in 2013 as a staff reporter at the Saber, Columbus State University’s student-run newspaper. After a few months, he took an active interest in university news and covered Student Government.

Quickly, Sam moved from reporter to editor, making use of his ability to guide stories and hunt down news. This led to Sam covering stories about health code violations at the university, Title IX violations, and leading the Saber’s, now-Uproar’s, investigative team until his graduation in May 2017.

During his time at the Saber, Sam earned the paper awards for his investigative reporting while covering a case of a professor sexually harassing a student on campus, and received the Society of Professional Journalism Region 3 Mark of Excellence Award in 2016.

Sam is also an avid photographer, and writer. When he’s not at work, you can usually find him editing books for clients, reading, or building Gundam models.

Sam has been at WFLA since March 2021 as a Digital Data Reporter, where he makes use of his research and writing skills to dig into data and report on the big stories in Tampa Bay.
