Ryan Hughes

I began my career at WFLA-TV bright and early on the morning shift. Now, you can catch me at 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Before coming to Tampa, I was just up the road at WFTV in Orlando. While there, I covered a wide variety of stories that focused on crime and government. In 2013, I was a courtroom reporter for the second-degree murder trial of George Zimmerman, who shot and killed Trayvon Martin. I was instrumental in helping several Clermont police officers regain employment after they were fired or demoted for reporting the police chief for inappropriate conduct. And, my reports about a proposed sex offender village in Lake County prompted officials to limit where offenders could live.

I started as a reporter at WABI-TV in Bangor, Maine, in my home state. After that, I headed south to the NBC station in Fort Myers, Florida.

I’m a graduate of Temple University’s School of Broadcasting, Telecommunications and Mass Media in Philadelphia. Go Owls!

In my spare time, I enjoy travelling and watching soccer, particularly the Orlando City Lions. I’m also a health and fitness buff.

Feel free to drop me a line or send me a story idea. Thanks for reading!
