Nathaniel Rodriguez joined the WFLA digital news staff in June 2021 as its new digital content producer, having come from WDHN News in Dothan where he worked as the digital media coordinator, fill-in producer, and on-air news reporter.
Originally a native of Puerto Rico, he moved throughout the southern United States before arriving at Enterprise, Alabama, where he graduated high school.
He then attended Troy University to study broadcast journalism and Spanish and graduated in the summer of 2018. After four years of working with Troy TrojanVision News, he was awarded Best News Reporter at the Headliner’s Ball. He also won awards for reciting Spanish poetry and prose from Troy’s Foreign Language Expo.
A year after graduating as a journalism student, Nathaniel earned his master’s degree in Strategic Communication and is now studying to be an anthropologist.
Under his guidance, WDHN won ABBY’s for Best Website, App, and Social Media. Digital traffic has also increased immensely, with WDHN being one of the fastest-growing digital operations in Nexstar and the Dothan market.
When it comes to news, Nathaniel abides by three core values: accuracy, clarity, and fairness. He believes that a journalist’s purpose is to keep people informed of what’s going on around them in the most ethical and professional way possible.
Aside from journalism, Nathaniel also enjoys studying Latin American history and culture as well as Spanish linguistics, having even studied in Cuba for a short period.
He also is a classically trained singer — having performed with Troy’s choirs in several venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York City.
