I joined Storm Team 8 in May 2016. I grew up near the beach in Westport, MA and love living here on the coast (this one’s a little warmer – okay a lot warmer). You can catch me on News Channel 8 on the weekends at 6PM, 8PM (Great 38) and 11PM and during the week on News Channel 8 at 11AM.
I grew up playing sports, fishing and skiing with my family in New England. I worked at a bait and tackle shop through high school and college and on a salmon boat for a summer up in Kodiak, Alaska.
Growing up praying for powder days or any snow to ski on, I loved watching the local TV meteorologists in Boston and Providence track Nor’easters and I always wanted to be one! My passion for weather sent me even farther north – a pitching wedge from the Canadian border – to the beautiful Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.
I studied Broadcast Meteorology and Physics at Lyndon State College. I played soccer (goalkeeper) there for four years and graduated with academic honors. I earned the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) distinction from the American Meteorological Society in 2014.
I’ve had the opportunity to track and forecast all kinds of weather, from winter and severe from blizzards to tornadoes working in Burlington, VT and Lexington, KY – and now tropical weather of course here in Tampa. I’ve been really lucky to have some great assignments in my career – my personal top 3 are visiting the GOES-R satellite in a NASA clean room and then seeing it launch to space, having a weekly ski segment in Vermont called “Skiin’ With Ian” and delivering a weathercast live at Churchill Downs from the Kentucky Derby.
My wife Cassidy and I live here in Tampa with our two pugs. Rickie made the trip with us down from the Kentucky and Vinny we adopted from the Pug Rescue of Florida.
Growing up in southern New England, I’m a huge Boston sports fan – Pats, Sox, Celtics and Bruins. The Bucs have grown on me big time in the NFC corner of my heart and I LOVE watching the Lightning play at Amalie. I know it doesn’t get me a whole lot of love here in Florida but Cassidy is a Kentucky Wildcat and a little bit of that Blue rubbed off on me too during my 4 years in Lexington.
