A fugitive Latin Kings gang member wanted for shooting into a crowd at a family event in New Jersey was captured in Tampa Wednesday and will soon be turned over to the FBI, officials said Thursday.
Ivan Rivera, 47, was listed as a fugitive after violating his parole in New York. Rivera has a criminal history involving multiple agencies in New York and New Jersey, including charges of burglary, sex offender violation (aggravated sexual assault) and aggravated assault with a firearm.
Authorities say Rivera was on the run after shooting into a crowd at an event titled “Strengthening Kids, a family event” in Newark, New Jersey.
On Wednesday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office learned Rivera may be in the area. With the help of the FBI, a Tampa address was obtained and Rivera was spotted at a home in the 12300 block of Cloverstone Drive in Tampa.
Detectives with the HCSO Warrant’s Section and Patrol District 3 Street Crimes Unit responded to the scene and Rivera was taken into custody without incident.
He’s now being held at the Hillsborough County Jail without bond, pending transfer back to New York and New Jersey.
