WIMAUMA, FL (WFLA) – When it comes to playing the lottery, Crystal Dampier will not go anywhere near it.

“I don’t play the lottery at all. I don’t touch it because I’m afraid if I win it I would sit down and cry,” Dampier said.

Dampier’s late husband Jeffery Dampier won $20 million in the lottery in 1996. In 2005, he was kidnapped and murdered by Crystal’s sister, Victoria, and her husband, Nathaniel Jackson.

“It made me furious, angry and mad. He’s not here to answer my questions,” Crystal Dampier said.

Dampier told News Channel 8 a lot has happened in the past 10 years. She received a promotion at work, finished her Bachelor’s degree and is working on her Master’s degree. She’s even found it in her heart to forgive her sister.

“It hurt but it eased the pain in my heart,” Dampier said.

But it wasn’t easy. At trial, Victoria Jackson claimed she was involved sexually with her sister’s husband. The prosecution said the murder was driven by greed.

“If looks can kill, I could’ve killed my sister sitting there at that time,” Dampier said.

Victoria was convicted and sentenced to three life sentences. Nathaniel Jackson was also convicted. Dampier told News Channel 8 she now finds telling her story is therapeutic. She said she’s learned a lot about trust through all of this.

“A lot of people think family won’t do that. Never say never,” Dampier added.

She thinks her husband would still be here if hadn’t won the money.

“I think it is a curse,” Dampier said.
